My Mission

I believe that by keeping things simple, and focussing on doing basics well, leads to wonderful results and a fantastic partnership with your horse. I am obsessively passionate about this and it is my mission to help riders achieve it!

I also agree strongly that there are no ‘quick fixes’ when it comes to horses, as they tend to end up being biomechanically detrimental to the horse with the potential to result in injury.  It is more time consuming in the long-term to correct mistakes than it is to allow the horse to progress naturally through correct training, coaching and physiotherapy.

How I achieve this

My lessons focus on the importance of rider balance and explaining horse movement, including how muscle groups produce certain actions. The aim is to get riders to clearly ask the horse what they want with their leg, seat and hand aids and to do this from a balanced, supple and influential seat.

During equine assessments I will pinpoint areas of weakness, or movement issues and help them to overcome this through physiotherapy and proper training.

MY STORY

Growing up I was a very shy little girl who lacked confidence, but when I was on or around horses and ponies that shyness disappeared, and my confidence grew.

However, lessons rarely left me feeling like I had done very well. Negative instructors often made me feel like I wasn’t good enough, yet these feelings made me more determined than ever to learn and to become a better rider. It also influenced me as a coach, to be someone who inspires, supports and encourages riders, and who helps them aim for their goals and achieve them.

My journey has taken me to many parts of the UK and Germany, where I trained with some of the best in the world, coached at some wonderful centres of excellence and taught riders of all abilities and ages. It has also given me the experience of working with many different horses from a large variety of breeds, and I have learned something from all of them.

Before I left for Germany, I worked in the field of equine nutrition for many years. The knowledge I picked up in this area has stayed with me, and I still find it a useful addition when assessing horse/rider performance in both coaching and physiotherapy.

When I returned from Germany, I brought back a love of dressage including a 3-year-old Hanoverian mare called Flori. The amazing training and high standards in the places I worked were both inspirational and infectious. Fast forward a few years and I was competing at Advanced level dressage, had qualified as a BD judge, and become part of the judging team at the Blenheim Palace International Horse Trials.

Qualifying as a veterinary physiotherapist further developed me as a coach. It gave me better insight into how the horse moves with every aid given, or how a horse changes its balance every time the rider shifts their weight. It enabled me to explain to pupils a different way of thinking, a way that filled them with enthusiasm and a better understanding of how to get the horse to work with them in harmony. Something we all strive to do!!
